This very unusual and likely scarce Weller Hudson 'Variant' vase stands a tall 10.75" high by 5" in diameter tapering to 2" at the rim. The glaze treatment places this vessel in a category of its own, so I'll call it a variant. It has a classic hefty bulb form with a tapered neckline. This vase was decorated by Miss Mae Timberlake with what could be Jonquil blossoms or the like on both sides. It has an unusual decorating accent with very thick glazes eminating at the rim and cascading downward to past the midline in spots. The glaze is so thick, it almost looks like crayons melting down the sides. The artwork is reminiscent of Mae Timberlake, but the glaze treatment at the rim is deliberate, and clearly not the usual treatment for a Hudson vessel. It is glazed in unusual brown terra-cotta-like glaze over the lower third, with a distinct mossy green under the heavy thick glazes at the rim. Overall, this pot has a truly organic 'feel' to it. This vase is marked on the basewith the usual large block letters 'WELLER', and it is signed by Mae Timberlake 'MT' on the lower edge of the artwork. This vessel is in original condition, no apologies. This unusual Hudson variant makes a very pleasing presentation, and will definitely start a conversation among other pottery enthusiasts.
