This stunning hand-painted and decorated vase stands a tall 10.5" high by 4.5" in diameter at its widest point, narrowing to a nipple opening measuring 1.25" at the rim. It has a fabulous statuesque form, which is elegant, yet simple in its design, simply beautiful! This vase form likely dates to c1920s-1930s, and is a porcelain blank used by china painters into the 1930s. Many women (and men), some very talented, mostly homemakers, were buying items to decorate in women's groups, or simply to work on at home in their leisure time. Some pieces are very ornate, some pretty, pretty decorative objects, and then some such as this beautifully hand-painted vessel revealing truly artistic talent. The styles varied from Art Nouveau to Arts & Crafts motifs, sometimes transitioning to more of an Art Deco style. This hand-painted decoration is wonderfully executed with a gorgeous group of cascading Wisteria blossoms. We do not know the artist because it is not signed, but his/her skill level was certainly beyond average. This vase is porcelain, glazed in a soft green ground, with very complementary colors, and heavy gold leaf covering the rim and shoulders, all finished in a soft satin mat. The gold leaf remains as vibrant and supple today as it did in 1930, more than 90 years ago. This vessel is unmarked. It is in original condition, no apologies. If you collect china-painted vases from the period, this is an absolutely stunning example!
