This Van Briggle vase stands a monumental 11.25" high by 5" in diameter at the rim and tapering to 3.5" at the base diameter. It has a classic, yet very pleasing Arts & Crafts form swelling at the shoulders. There are well-defined embossed Columbine blossoms adorning the shoulders, an unusual design, from 1905, shape number 385. The references note #385 measures 9" and this is clearly 11.25" high. There are two others in online references of this vase, same size, one a 1930s USA piece, and the other dated 1906, same form, but neither has a shape number noted. We covered the bottom with powder and the 385 shape number is very faintly present, in a sideways slant by the 'Van' area of the marks. It is very hard to see, but we feel confident that this is shape number 385. We've included an extra image of the underside, with added contrast making it darker, and perhaps easier to see the numbers as described. This one dates to the 1930s, and apparently, it is a pretty scarce form.  It is glazed in Van Briggle's signature turquoise blue glaze, which lays on the vessel beautifully, blushed with a slightly deeper turquoise hue over the embossed design, a very nice glaze combination. This vase is well marked on its base with the cojoined AAs, and it bears the name 'Van Briggle' in an unusual script, along with the aforementioned shape number 385, dating it to the 1930s. We made an inquiry to Kathy Honea, author of the book 'Van Briggle Notes', and she believes it to be a 1930s signature. It is in original condition with just generalized factory crazing. This elusive vessel form is a very handsome example of Van Briggle Pottery, in a nice glaze combination.
