This Tiffany inkwell measures 3.5" high by 6.75" in diameter. It has a hexagonal form and is embossed with the signs of the Zodiac, with Libra represented on its hinged lid. This is Tiffany Model #1072, a large zodiac inkwell. It includes its original glass insert, which has an old sliver chip under the rim, so when seated, the surface is unaffected and smooth. The underside is also smooth, not a sharp edge at all. The glass still has remnants of ink residue, which I did not attempt to remove because I think it adds to its character. It clearly was used as intended. This inkwell is well-marked Tiffany Studios New York, along with its shape number 1072 on the underside. This inkwell has a gorgeous patina with a mellowed bronze and wonderful verdigris in the panels, adding very nicely to its character. This inkwell is in original studio condition, with the aforementioned sliver chip in the glass insert, and some no harm oxydation on the interior lid. It makes a gorgeous presentation and would complement an Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts or Art Deco decor. The finish is superb!
