This Rookwood Standard Glaze candlestick stands 3.5" high by 5" in diameter, 2" at the rim. It has a trial shape number T796, which is a classic candlestick form with a loop handle and a candlecup with a rolled ledge for holding wax in place. It was decorated by one of Rookwood's finest artists Mr. John D. Wareham, whose tenure at Rookwood was 1893-1954. This candlestick was painted in Wareham's first year at Rookwood, and he spent his entire art career at Rookwood. He decorated this vessel with what appear to be Wild Rose blossoms, with exacting precision. The glaze colors are gorgeous in shaded honey golden amber and orange, with deep, rich chocolate brown, with expertly executed artwork under a veil of glaze, simply beautiful. This beauty is well marked and dated with 7 flames for 1893. Wareham's initials/cipher are noted on the base J.D.W., along with the Rookwood logo and shape number T796. The shape number 796 is a vase form, and does not correspond to this trial shape. Once a trial design got adopted for production, a new number was assigned. Trial numbers were simply used for trials. This trial candlestick sold in the Rookwood III Auction #1412 for $300.00. There is a typed description of this trial piece rolled up and tucked into the underside of this candlestick, which will be included with purchase. This beautiful candlestick is in original factory condition. The shadows in the photos are from camera glare, the glaze finish is very uniform.  This special trial vessel makes a richly beautiful presentation!
