This Rookwood Standard Glaze vase stands 6.5" high by 4" in diameter. It has a hexagonal form, a pressed piece with incised Apple Blossoms, designed in 1881, with just a few specimens made, according to Peck's 2nd book on Rookwood Pottery. It was decorated by Miss Anna Marie (Bookprinter) Valentien, whose tenure at Rookwood was 1884-1905. She decorated this vessel using  just its glaze, shading light and dark. The glaze colors are in lighter standard glaze colors, in honey golden amber, with orange hues. This vessel is well marked and dated with 1 flame for 1887. Valentien's initials/cipher are noted on the base, along with the Rookwood logo and shape number 23A, a very early and scarce Rookwood form. This vessel is in original factory condition, with an 'X' on the base, for a factory kiln kiss on the side, in which its glaze lifted off when separated from another vessel in the kiln. The shadows in the photos are from camera glare, the glaze finish is very uniform. This vase makes a handsome presentation.
