This Rookwood Standard Glaze vase stands rather proudly at 13" high by 5.5" in diameter, tapering at the neckline to a 3.5" diameter flared rim. It has a very statuesque form, shape 496A, designed by Pitts Harrison Burt. It was decorated by Amelia Browne Sprague, whose tenure at the Rookwodd Pottery was from 1887-1903. She decorated this vessel with Blackberries and leaves in exacting precision. The glaze colors are gorgeous in deep mahogany red-brown, with expertly executed artwork under a veil of glaze, simply beautiful. This beauty is well marked and dated with thirteen flames, dating this vase to1899. Amelia Browne Sprague's initials/cipher are noted on the base, along with the Rookwood logo and shape number 496A. This shapely vessel is in amazingly original factory condition, with minimal wear from handling. The shadows in the photos are from camera glare, the glaze finish is very uniform. This very large and impressive vase makes a stunningly beautiful presentation!
