This Rookwood Painted Mat vessel stands 8" high by 5" in diameter. It has a pleasing full-bodied form with a rolled collar. It was decorated by Amelia Browne Sprague, whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1887-1903. This vase is decorated with a rich blossom motif of what could be a single pink Rose just beginning to bloom, with green leaves, in an ethereal and delicate presentation. It is glazed in a rosey brown ground, which has great depth and character, and is finished in a satin mat. This vessel feels great, in hand. It is shape number 4DZ impressed, and it is dated 1901, a nice early Painted Mat glaze, which was only produced from 1901-1911. It bears the standard Rookwood cipher on the base, and a '1' for 1901. It bears Sprague's initials in a cojoined moniker 'ABS' on the base. This vase is in original factory condition, no apologies. This Painted Mat glazed pot presents very handsomely.
