This Rookwood Ivory Cameo set includes a covered sugar and a creamer. The sugar with lid stands 3.5" high by 5.5" across the handles by 4" in diameter, the creamer stands 2.25" high by 5.5" across the handle by 3.25" in diameter. They have a classic form, a design by William Watts Taylor. The set obviously included a teapot at some point, which, sadly is missing. The Ivory Cameo line was introduced c1884 through to c1892. This set was decorated by Miss Emma D. Foertmeyer, whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1887-1895. Sadly, the year of her death is noted as 1895, so this lovely artist died in 1895 at the age of 29. She decorated this set in a blossom and leaf motif with exacting precision. The blossoms appear to be peach or apple blossoms. They are glazed in a very pretty apricot blush, shading light and dark with very complementary glaze colors, and finished to a glossy sheen. This set's shape numbers are 554, and it is dated with four flames, dating it to 1890, along with the standard Rookwood 'RP' cipher on the base and a 'W' for white clay. It bears Foertmeyer's initials cipher, 'E.D.F.' on the bases and the inner lid bears her initials as well. There is an 'L.' mark, perhaps a potter's mark, not sure. This set is in original factory condition, no apologies. This early Rookwood Ivory Cameo beauty makes a stunning presentation!
