This Rookwood Iris Glaze vase stands 4.75" high by 5" in diameter, tapering to 2.5" in diameter at the rim. It has a classic ball form with a cinched collar. This porcelain beauty was decorated by one of Rookwood's best artists, Miss Margaret Helen McDonald, whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery lasted from 1913-1948. She decorated this vase with gorgeous blossom sprigs, which look like Orange blossoms, all framed in faux porticos, an interesting artistic accent. The body has a yellow ground glaze, covered in an orange blush, all under a veil of an Iris glaze treatment that gives this vessel an ethereal presentation, simply beautiful. This vase is well marked and dated 1938, along with an 'S' designation, which is for a special form. McDonald's initials are noted on the base, along with an inverted triangle or chevron symbol. There are remnants of a paper label from the Cincinnati Art Galleries on the body. This vase is in original condition, no apologies. If you favor Rookwood Iris Glazes, this one is a beauty.
