This impressive Rookwood Decorated Mat/Double Vellum vase stands 6.5" high by 6.5" in diameter, with a 5" opening at the rim. This vessel was in the Glover Collection sale from 1991, #856, and still retains its original Glover Collection sticker, albeit, partial. It has a classic ball form, swelling nicely to the shoulder. This vessel is decorated with rather sketchy Art Deco blossoms, which are superbly executed. It was hand painted by one of Rookwood's prized female artists, Miss Katherine Jones, whose tenure at Rookwood Pottery was from 1924 to 1931. She chose a beautiful palette of colors, in a lush lavender ground, with beautifully complementary colors in the blossoms, very 'Art Deco' in their presentation. This vase is well marked with the Rookwood logo, and dated 1930 in Roman Numerals, and it is initialed by Katherine Jones on the base, along with its shape number 130, and a series of hashmarks indicating the 50th Anniversary year of 1930. Oddly, the shape number reads 130, with a tilt to the 3. The shape number 130 is supposedly a 'tray' according to the references, so it's a mystery. This beauty is in original condition, no apologies. If you like Katherine Jones' art, this is a beautifully stunning example from an important collection!
