This handsome Rookwood Carved Mat vessel stands a mere 3.25" high by 4" in diameter, 3.25" at the rim, a small, yet wonderful example of Arts & Crafts styling. It has a very pleasing corseted form with a flared rim opening. It was decorated by Charles Stewart Todd (1886-1950), whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1910-1922. This vase is carved with an outline of berries and leaves in a garland around the midline of the vase. It has a wonderfully organic glaze decoration in a simple red and green combination. This pot is shape number 354, and it is dated 1913, a nice early Carved Mat example, along with the standard Rookwood cipher on the base. It bears Todd's initials 'C.S.T.' on the base. This small, yet handsome vase is in original factory condition, no apologies.
