This Rookwood Decorated Mat vase stands a mighty 11" high by 6.5" in diameter at the flared rim, and 4.5" on the body and base edge. It has a very statuesque trumpeted form, a design by John D. Wareham. It was decorated by Elizabeth Barrett, whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1924-1948. This vase is decorated with cascading Wisteria blossoms eminating at the rim to the hip of the pot. It is glazed in a very handsome shaded blue over pink-hued lavender underglaze, shading light and dark, with blue-petaled blossoms and drippy green leaves. The interior is lavender with splashes of blue glaze. It has a satin mat finish. This pot is shape number 2789, and it is dated 1926, along with the standard Rookwood cipher on the base. It bears Barrett's initials cipher, a cojoined stylized 'EB' on the base. This vase is in original factory condition, with an 'x' on the underside, presumably for a no harm drip of glaze at the rim. This very large and handsome Wareham-designed, Barrett-decorated vessel makes a lovely Arts & Crafts presentation!
