This Rookwood Decorated Mat vase stands 8.5" high by 4.5" in diameter for the body, 3" in diameter at the rim. It has a pleasing full-bodied form. This vessel was decorated with beautiful Poppy blossoms and leaves by Kataro Shiriyamadani, one of Rookwood's most accomplished artists, who spent his career at Rookwood Pottery. It is glazed in a light springtime palette with a lavender over cream ground, and rosey pinks in the Poppy blossoms with green leaves. It has a wonderfully feminine presentation. This vase is well marked and it is dated 1943, shape number 6823. There are some esoteric marks that are not legible and there appears to be a faint 'S' in pink slip, likely his 'K.S.' initials, but nothing legible. I guarantee this vase to be decorated by Shiriyamadani, the decoration is signature Shiri. This beautiful vessel is in original condition, no apologies.
