This Rookwood Decorated Mat Vellum vase stands 6.25" high by 4.25" in diameter at the rim, and 5" in diameter at the base. It has a classic form, with a trumpeted rim. This vase was decorated by one of Rookwood's finest female artists, Miss Margaret Helen McDonald, a native of Cincinnati, who spent her career at the Rookwood Pottery. She decorated this vessel with sweet red star blossoms and green leaves over a yellow double vellum ground over the hip, and a rich lavender from the waist to the rim, and she nailed the glaze effect beautifully. The glaze colors are absolutely gorgeous. This beauty is well marked with the Rookwood logo, shape number 2719, and dated 1925. Margaret McDonald's initials 'MHM' are noted on the base, along with an interesting factory mark, a special mark, but its purpose is not known to us. This vessel is a stunning example of a double vellum glaze, and it is in original condition, no apologies.
