This Rookwood Decorated Mat Vellum vase stands 6.25" high by 5.5" in diameter, and 2.75" in diameter at the rim. It has a classic ball form, with a cinched collar. This vase was decorated by one of Rookwood's finest female artists, Miss Margaret Helen McDonald, a native of Cincinnati, who spent her career at the Rookwood Pottery. She decorated this vessel with sweet tiny blossom sprays in violet blues and lavender over a shaded lavender/purple ground. The glaze colors are gorgeous. This beauty is well marked with the Rookwood logo, shape number 912, a 'V' for vellum and dated 1916, a nice early period vellum. Margaret McDonald's initials are noted on the base. This vessel is x'd for restoration to a factory glaze skip on its shoulder, which was over one of the blossom sprays, and is nicely disguised. There is some factory peppering in the glaze, along with generalized factory crazing.
