Can you say 'Pretty in Pink'! This Rookwood Decorated Mat/Double Vellum vessel stands 6" high by 5" in diameter by 1" in diameter at the rim. It has a pleasing bulb form, with an 'S' shape form designation representing a 'Special' design. This beautiful vase was decorated by Sarah Elizabeth Coyne (1876-1939), called 'Sallie'. Her tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1891-1936. This vase is decorated with a gorgeous floral motif, Poppies, I believe, with pink blossoms laced with red and leaves in a lavender hue. It is glazed in a very handsome rosey pink ground, with the bulb portion covered in a superb lavender double vellum glaze, a fine, fine example of a great vellum glaze treatment. It has a smooth satin mat finish. This pot is dated 1933, along with the standard Rookwood cipher on the base. It bears Coyne's initials cipher, 'SEC' on the base.
