This striking Rookwood Decorated Mat/Double Vellum vase stands 8" high by 3.25" in diameter. It has a simple collared cylinder form, a design by Kataro Shirayamadani. It was decorated by John Wesley Pullman, whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1926-1931. Best of all, this vase is decorated with a band of blossoms and leaves over the hip of the pot, with a killer double-vellum glaze in a fabulous shaded orange-brown-hued glaze, with beautifully complementary colors in the blossoms and leaves. It has a smooth and silky satin mat finish. This pot is shape number 589F, and it is dated 1925, along with the standard Rookwood cipher on the base. It bears Pullman's initials cipher, a cojoined stylized 'JWP' on the base. This vase is in original factory condition, with an 'x' on the underside, but we see no reason for it, so perhaps it was marked to keep it from going to the sales showroom, which happened on occasion when an artist was making a vase as a gift, or for a visiting dignitary. This very handsome Shirayamadani-designed, Pullman-decorated vessel makes an awesome presentation, with a killer glaze!
