This Rookwood Decorated Mat covered jar stands 6.75" high by 4.5" in diameter by 3.25" in diameter at the lidded rim. It has a pleasing cylinder jar form, with a domed lid. This vessel was in the Glover Collection sale from 1991, which was held by The Cincinnati Art Galleries, item number #0575, and it still retains its original Glover Collection paper label. This beautiful jar was decorated by Sarah Elizabeth Coyne (1876-1939), called 'Sallie'. Her tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1891-1936, essentially spending her career with the Rookwood Pottery. This covered jar is decorated with a gorgeous Tulips motif adorning the lid, with pink Tulip blossoms and leaves in a blue/green hue. It is glazed in a very handsome deep blue ground on the jar, with a smooth satin mat finish. This pot is dated 1916, a very successful period for Decorated Mat vessels. It bears the standard Rookwood cipher on the base, along with Coyne's initials cipher, 'SEC' on the base and shape number 47C, a design by William Auckland. This covered jar is in original factory condition, no apologies. This Rookwood beauty makes a stunning presentation!
