This ompressive Rookwood Carved Mat vessel stands a tall 11" high by 5.5" across the handles by 4.5" at the rim. It has a tall, slender and pleasing form with a twin-handle. This vessel presents like a mug or stein, yet it is listed as a 'handled vase' in the shape catalog. It was designed by William Watts Taylor and decorated by Charles Stewart Todd (1886-1950), whose tenure at the Rookwood Pottery was from 1910-1922. This handled vase is deeply carved with several stylized birds. It has a perfect Arts & Crafts motif, which lays on this vessel beautifully. It is glazed in a very handsome blue ground, with blue and plum accents over the birds, with a satin mat finish. This pot is shape number 292C, and it is dated 1912, along with the standard Rookwood cipher on the base. It bears Todd's initials 'C.S.T.' on the base. This impressively large vase is in original factory condition, no apologies, it's stunning!
