This fun and cheerful set of bookends stand 5.5" high by 5.5" across by 3" wide. They have a charming and endearing form depicting baby chicks in a basket, all chirping for food. They are glazed in a simple yellow glaze, which thins at the high points, accentuating their presentation beautifully. They are finished to a satin mat. This set is marked with the Kenton Hills logo on the underside, along with the shape number 120, along with the cojoined initials JB, which are the initials of the artist Julian F. Bechtold. He designed a couple of other sets of Kenton Hill bookends, one set rarer than the next. This set is in studio original condition, with the usual glaze nuances seen in the photos, but no apologies. These chicks make a playful, bright and cheerful presentation. Kenton Hills Porcelain and Pottery was located in Erlanger, Kentucky. The company was started by Harold Bopp and some other former Rookwood artists. They produced pottery, including vases and figurines that resembled Rookwood, likely because so many of the original artists and workmen had worked at the Rookwood plant prior to moving over to Kenton Hills. The pottery opened on January 22, 1940 and closed during World War II. These chicks will hug you coming out of the box!
