This is the wildest head vase I have ever encountered! It is made from a baby doll head designed by Grace S. Putnam , a German doll maker. Her dolls were from the turn of the last century forward, so they were bisque or porcelain when made. This sweet baby face is Putnam's 'Baby Bye-lo' doll, which was a huge hit and sold in the tens of thousands over the years. This baby face has been used as a head vase with the addition of numerous birds and a central bird bud vase at the center. It is marked as it would have been by Putnam, reading 'Made by Grace S. Putnam, Germany' on the back of the neck area. I believe it is an original doll head, made of clay, with the bird additions. She measures 10" high by 12" across by 6" wide, a large head vase for sure. She is adorned with owls and various other bird species, with the central bird serving as a bud vase as can be seen in the photos. She is glazed in a rich, thick maroon-colored berry glaze, and finished to a mirror gloss. It is marked as noted, with an inscription on the interior head that reads 'Happy Birthday Mello!'. This head vase is in excellent condition with a very good restoration to a couple of minor nicks/chips to the birds, and two neck base chips. This Baby head vase would make a great addition to any collection, and we guarantee she will start a conversation! Up for adoption today!
