This rare French Faience Pottery Vase stands 10" high by 8" across by 2.5" deep. This pillow vase dates to c1880. It has a beautiful and classic footed pillow form, with a generous disk-like palette. The artwork is superb! It is decorated with a portrait of a French lady in Victorian style, rather regal in its presentation. The artwork is superb! The artist signed this vase at the lower edge of the artwork 'E. Landry'. We've seen French pieces signed by Landry in the past, but we do not know anything about the artist. The glaze colors are especially rich and vibrant on this vase, in a deep lush palette of colors, with gilt flourishes, and trimmed in gilt by the portrait. It is unmarked, except for the artist's signature. This French Faience vase, which is more than 130 years old, is in excellent condition, with an old chip at the rim, and a couple of no harm surface glaze chips on the shoulder edge, which we show in the photos. This vase makes an awesome presentation, with an outstanding portrait of a lady, and wonderful use of color, it's absolutely stunning!
