This handsome and scarce c1905 oval plaque measures just shy of 12" high by 7" across by three-ply thickness. It was produced by the Flemish Art Company in New York at the turn of the last century. Sports-themed plaque's are pretty scarce, so we are delighted to offer this one for sale. It is a nice early plaque, with a gorgeous deeply carved motif of a child dressed in traditional sportsman's garb, like a "Football Player", holding a football and could easily represent any school or alma mater. The original patina is a beautiful deep and rich brown with wonderful natural shading. It has a metal hook at the top for hanging. It is in good condition, with the usual natural splits in the wood grain, and a little warping in the ply thickness, along with 100+ years of handling wear, as can be seen in the photos. Despite these minor issues, it presents quite well. This plaque is well marked on the backside 'Flemish Art', shape number 859. This vintage plaque makes a very nice Arts & Crafts sportsman presentation.
