This Flemish pyrography box measures 3.5" high by 7" across by 7" wide. It was produced by the Flemish Art Company in New York at the turn of the last century. It is a nice early Flemish box in a very desirable motif of a beautiful Native American Indian Maiden, which is deeply carved and accented with red stains of color. There are very nicely carved accent details covering this box. The original patina is a lush beautiful brown. This box does bear the Flemish Art mark, #690 on the underside. It is in very good condition, with normal wear and a line separation in the veneer on the top surface, which has aged to a beautiful natural patina. The wood split may be from the initial tooling/carving, and perhaps simply from more than 100 years of age. The interior is fully lined in its original taffeta material, which shows wear. This vintage box with a stunning Indian Maiden makes a very beautiful Arts & Crafts presentation.
