This stunning China-painted original lamp stands 25" high (Pottery portion 11") by 5" in diameter. It is decorated with Poppies in full bloom with trailing leaves and buds over a gilded band, all around the body of the lamp. It makes a distinctly beautiful Arts & Crafts/Art Deco presentation, and is framed with its original hardware, which is quite complementary to the lamp decoration. It is unmarked, but likely a porcelain blank, made specifically for china painters. Many companies sold their white porcelain-like ware to china-painters at the turn of the last century. Many women, mostly homemakers, were buying items to decorate in women's groups, or simply to work on at home in their leisure time. Some pieces are very ornate, highly detailed and simply pretty decorative objects, such as this one. The styles varied from an Arts & Crafts motif, sometimes transitioning to more of an Art Deco style. Oftentimes, the women would initial their work, but there are no marks on this lamp. This lamp is in original condition, inperfect working order, no apologies. Any shadow marks are from camera glare, this china-painted lamp makes a simply stunning presentation!
