This Italian 50s-60s Modern pitcher stands 11" high by 6.5" across the handle by 6" in diameter, and 4.5" at the rim. It has a strong form, with a double row of reticulated orange petals at the central potion of the pitcher, accented with a green band, a great design element. The glaze colors are in organic shades of orange, green, black and white, over a thick pebbled glaze effect. This pitcher is marked Made/Italy, along with a series of number/letter codes, likely a shape number. This piece presents like a Bitossi to my eye, but the bottom is not concave, which is definitely a marker for Bitossi. Fanciullacci hails from the Montelupo region of Italy, by Italian Modern designer Fratelli Fanciullacci, whose work screams mid-century modern. Fanciullacci produced a line of vases and other pottery forms akin to this design. This vessel is in original condition, with normal handling wear, but no apologies. It has a screaming 50s-60s Italian Modern appeal and would complement any room as a decorator piece all by itself. It would also make a wonderful addition to a Modern collection.
