This beautiful hand-painted and decorated vase stands 7.75" high by 4" in diameter at its widest point, narrowing to 2.5" at the rim. It has a full-bodied form, which is simple, yet pleasing in its design. This vase is a porcelain blank used by china painters into the 1930s. Many women (and men), some very talented, mostly homemakers, were buying items to decorate in women's groups, or simply to work on at home in their leisure time. Some pieces are very ornate, some pretty, pretty decorative objects, and then some such as this beautifully hand-painted vessel revealing truly artistic talent. The styles varied from Art Nouveau to Arts & Crafts motifs, sometimes transitioning to more of an Art Deco style like this one. This hand-painted decoration is wonderfully executed with a pretty Art Deco blossom design. We do not know the artist because it is not signed, but his/her skill level was certainly beyond average. This vase is porcelain, glazed in a soft yellow ground, with heavy gilt/gold leaf outlining the rim and decoration, all finished in a mirror gloss. The gold leaf remains as vibrant and supple today as it did in 1930, more than 90 years ago. The yellow is more pronounced than the photos, not bright, but more yellow than revealed in the images, and of course, the glare is simply light reflection, the vase presents beautifully. This vessel is unmarked. It is in original condition, no apologies. If you collect china-painted vases from the period, this is an absolutely stunning Art Deco example!
