This Rookwood Violet Gray vase stands 8.5" high by 10" in diameter. It has a handsome flared form with an exaggerated wide rim, and a narrow platform base. The body of the vase is cloaked in Morning Glories and foliage, a very handsome presentation. Best of all, it is glazed in Rookwood's signature 'Violet Gray' thick glaze, which lays on this vessel like a thick coat of glass on the exterior, and a vivid turquoise on the interior. The violet/gray glaze is laced with charcoal gray, and blushed in lavender and blue, a luscious glaze combination. It is finished to a mirror gloss. This vase is well marked and dated 1949. It is in excellent condition, with a good restoration to a small surface chip on the base edge. There is a factory glaze splinter on the base edge as well, which is simply that, a splinter. The glaze is so thick at the base, it blends right in. This vessel, glazed in a favored glaze from the 1940s-50s, makes a very lush presentation.
