This beautiful PL Limoges France hand-painted and decorated sugar shaker measures 4" high by 3.5" in diameter at the base by 1.25" in diamter at the rim. It has a shapely form, with a shaker top covered in a gilt trim. It is decorated with a garland of stylized blossoms or pumpkin fruit in a nice Arts and Crafts presentation. The decoration is beautiful with what could be 3-petal blossoms or small pumpkins in a nice apricot/orange glaze, piped in black and covered in a heavy gilt leaf, a repeating pattern around the platform base. It is signed by the artist F.H.B. on the base, along with the Limoges ink stamp PL, Limoges, France. Limoges sold their white porcelain ware to china-painters at the turn of the last century. Many women, mostly homemakers, were buying items to decorate in women's groups, or simply to work on at home in their leisure time. Some pieces are very ornate, some pretty, pretty decorative objects, such as this sugar shaker. The styles varied from an Arts & Crafts motif, sometimes transitioning to more of an Art Deco style. This shaker is glazed in a ground of porcelain ivory, with very complementary colors in the decoration, just beautiful. It is in factory original condition, with just normal handling wear. This china-painted sugar shaker makes a beautiful presentation!
