This L. Hjorth Tortoise figural stands a mere 2.25" high by 4.5" long by 3.5" wide. He was designed by Gertrud Kudielka (1896-1984) for L. Hjorth Pottery around 1950. Marked L.Hjorth Danmark and S3. Lauritz Hjorth set up his pottery in Bornholm, a Danish island, in 1859.Much of Hjorth's wares were brown decorated wares, which was the factory's major output for decades. Artists joined the Hjorth family and designed a number of specialty lines in the mid-century period. This tortoise is a smaller version of the larger 6" tortoise in the same glaze treatment. This little guy is in original condition, no apologies.
