This rare Jersey City Pottery vase stands 10.25" high by 7.5" across by 3" deep. Jersey City Pottery opened in Jersey City, NJ around 1827. It went through many name changes over the years. This pillow vase dates to 1880, when the pottery was known as American Pottery Company. The mark on this piece gives us a clue as to the time period that this mark was used. According to Barber, the I.V.W. mark was used around 1880. This vase has a beautiful and classic pillow form, with a generous palette. It has gorgeous pink and yellow Roses and buds, and green leaves. The artwork, which includes a spray of leaves on the backside, is beautifully executed! The glaze colors, over a creamy white ground, are especially rich and vibrant on this vase. It is marked IVW. This vase, which is more than 130 years old, is in excellent condition, with restoration to a simple, short crazing line at the rim. This vintage beauty makes a wonderfully wholesome presentation!
