This very sweet J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Works tile in metal footed trivet stand measures 4" square by nearly a 1/2" thick. The tile has a simple cornered square form with a blossom motif. It fits perfectly in its metal tile trivet on brass feet. It is glazed in a nice medium green glaze, with a glossy sheen. This tile is well marked by the J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Works on the base, dated 1884, Chelsea, Mass., U.S.A., and guaranteed to be a vintage J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Works original. Ten Massachusetts Libraries hosted an exhibition of J. & J.G. Low Art Tile Works tiles in 1944. Life Magazine photographed the exhibition and the Boston Post did a Sunday Story of the tiles, along with publications by the Boston Library. The tiles were all original tiles, and some were sold at the exhibitions with a small story sheet describing the exhibition. We are lucky to have one of these tiles, along with its original paperwork from 1944. The tile is an original, dated 1884. This tile is in near original condition, except for some surface edge wear/tiny nicks on the side edges, as shown in the photos, and is absent of any of the common factory crazing. The metal trivet stands has handling marks, but functions as intended, and sits even and steady on a flat surface. As tiles go, this one presents beautifully, and it is accompanied by a great story. This sweet blossom tile makes a lovely and pleasing presentation!
