This stunning American Satsuma china-painted decorated Covered jar with a button lid stands 6" high by 5" in diameter. It has a rounded covered jar form. It is decorated with an intricate design over a white ceramic body, in a distinctly nice Arts & Crafts/Art Deco presentation, and framed beautifully in a gilded trim all around. This is a gorgeous jar having feminine and masculine qualities, and doubtless a hit in the design department to anyone's eye. It is unmarked, but likely a Satsuma blank, made specifically for china painters. Many companies sold their white porcelain-like ware to china-painters at the turn of the last century. Many women, mostly homemakers, were buying items to decorate in women's groups, or simply to work on at home in their leisure time. Some pieces are very ornate, highly detailed and simply pretty decorative objects, such as this one. The styles varied from an Arts & Crafts motif, sometimes transitioning to more of an Art Deco style. Oftentimes, the women would initial their work, but there are no marks on this jar. This jar is in factory original condition, no apologies. Any shadow marks are from camera glare, this china-painted jar makes a simply stunning presentation!
